When Donald Trump first announced his intention to run for the presidency of the United States, the entire US said "Hahaha! Hohoho! This will be comic relief at its finest! Donald Trump? As president? Give us a break! He'll be knocked out at the primaries. He won't be able to win even in his own state! Oh well, Lord knows we need a good laugh. But we would like to assure the rest of the world that there is no way Donald Trump will become president. Not on our watch!" Fast forward to Vic O. This whole Vic O matter started like play like play. Some weird, random guy who bleached with Tura but kept his burnt smoker lips told us that he was the next rap genius, told us confidently that after being contacted by Jay Z's younger brother, he is supposed to be doing a duet with Hova, and we thought he was funny in a special needs way.

Look at this life now. Vic O is now a name that I have heard of. How did this happen? Why is this happening to me? I'm a good person. I pay my taxes and help old ladies cross the street. Why am I living in a universe where Vic O is a thing?

What a fabulous song!

Let me say first and foremost that I have never been a Darey fan. I don’t deny his exquisite vocals but I have never followed his music and the few of his songs that I have heard in passing have never resonated.

Until now…

Again I say what a fabulous song!

Darey tells a story that most (if not all of us) can relate to ie. leaving the nest. He sings about leaving home for an uncertain future in the city. His father is not for it and warns him about the risks of his departure but he is resolute and chooses to follow his heart even though he knows he could end up lost and broken. With a request to his father to pray for him, he embarks on his journey.

The second half of the song has Darey writing to his father four years and eleven months later.

Life has not been easy.

He has had to struggle every day just to get by but despite it the biting challenges his resolve has not wavered. Again he requests that is father prays for him as he pushes on his journey.

Darey backed up by the Soweto Gospel Choir (who actually sing in Yoruba I kid you not) are in fine form here. They paint a picture of leaving home to follow your dreams without sugar-coating the blood, sweat and tears of the journey.

It is an inspired piece and a breath of fresh air in what I find to be the increasingly vapid Naija music scene. Do give it a listen and check out the great video which showcases traditional, nostalgic scenes and arouses feelings of longing and wistfulness. The journey ain't been easy on any of us and that's the truth. The exemplary Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva are in it too!

There's nothing sweeter than hearing a debut single that brings the fire, the hunger and the desire to jump up and shake something. Iyo has done that and then some with her new song Pack Up And Go and we're loving it!

Right from the days of Blaccky's Rosie and Daddy Showkey's Dyna (all you young heads don't know nuffink about this! :lol: ), I have had a thing for our music being given a reggae edge, and this song does it so seamlessly that you just can't figure out how to dance to it; whether to flex or to dance etighi. All you know is...the beat starts and you gets to popping.

I also kinda like the rawness of the video. There are no skyline zooms from helicopters or speedboats anywhere. The video shows an attractive woman moving in next door and all of a sudden, bobo nice says:

He wants me to pack up and go
Just pack up and go
I mean, what could be clearer? Set it against a banging beat, get some young men to dance the galala of their lives and you have the recipe for a very sweet sometin!

Blessing Iyoghama Osazuwa aka IYO, is a fully signed artist of CREAM MAX MUSIC Record Label who didn't do too shabbily for a first-timer, the video was directed by UnLimited L.A. Love in the time of war: a couple meet and marry in a Boko Haram refugee camp

I was all poised with big English words like Obahiagbon, but when I think of Boko Haram, all I can think of is "Chei, e no go better for these animals o. And I hope all the virgins they go and meet are all strapped with grenades and strap-ons because Boko Haram na just smelling bunch of people, true to God."

Out of the desolate waste lands of waste, grief and despair though comes the tough, unwieldy seed that is love. The human desire for companionship, solace and contact supersedes any evil and it stays with us, no matter what we have been through.

According to the BBC, thirty-five-year-old Modu Bulama came to the Boko Haram refugee camp at Dalori after his wife and two children were killed by the terrorist group.

Despite his tragic loss, Bulama helps out at the camp, and it was while helping with the distribution of relief material to other camp residents that he met a woman who had lost her husband in the conflict.

Shared grief and empathy can be a powerful thing, and after exchanging their experiences, he followed the advice of some of the elders in the camp and asked her to marry him.

The entire look of the video is one of loss and despair; every single person there is someone who has witnessed unspeakable things and has something to grieve for, but...wait until you see the new bride's smile!

The years fall off her and she is a maiden again. It's not hard to believe that this was once a carefree woman who lived her life in a home she grew up in and loved. The song that keeps playing in my head is Louis Armstrong's What A Wonderful World, and the only recurring thought is "Evil must not be allowed to win. There is so much good left in the world. So much."

Wait, Neymar is trending on twitter oh. I guess lot of football fans world over want him to win today. Honestly, going by his consistent goal-scoring performance in Barcelona's trophy laden year of 2015, I think he deserves it.

Messi's genius has never been in doubt, but in 2015, he had one or two off moments, moments when 'twas Neymar's efficiency (not forgetting Suarez's suave-ness too) in front of goal that sufficed for his team; Ronaldo's wowsomeness didn't abate either, but, in 2015, his goals did not yield any trophy for his team. But Neymar, ha, Neymar scored in almost all games Barcelona played last season, especially, when it mattered.

Well, FIFA remains FIFA...they keep 'not surprising' us :lol: ...hahaha. ..

Messi has won the FIFA Ballon d'Or 4 times and he scored a great goal against Bayern in the UCL semi-final 2015, Ronaldo has won it twice too; Neymar blitzed past defenders with Brazilian ease throughout the year, should FIFA deem it worthy and encouraging to veto the award to Neymar today?

Oh No...they rely on votes from Coaches and Captains. ...I see. . :roll: :lol:

African Waist by Tiwa Savage leaves me underwhelmed and wondering if I know what a waist is [WATCH & LISTEN]

I'm really scared to write this piece because everybody knows Olamide is my imaginary baby daddy/niggi 4 lyfe, so anything I write may be considered bad belle, but I just heard the song African Waist by Tiwa Savage and the thought that dogged me all through was "Soooo...wey the waist na?!"

I played the video and the song several times over hoping it would be one of those slow burners, but I was still left with the fact that none of it appealed to my senses - neither my ears, eyes nor waist. I love watching African waists in action, mostly because I am built like a robot and can't move mine. It's actually something of an obsession of mine, so I thought I would get my fill in this video. As in....check out the title of the song na!

Alas, not so. I just had no understanding of the whole thing. The video instantly reminded me of a Nicki Minaj 'Pound The Alarm' situation: I saw carnival shenanigans that spoke neither of Africa nor waistlines.

The dance moves: I saw a few choreographed nifty moves, I even saw some Beyonce choreography (you'll know Beyonce na? That queen of African moves? :-| ), but nothing particularly African. From makossa to belly dancing to mapouka, we have dances that are created for the glory of the African waist - a feature that is not exclusive to women, by the way. Just ask Iyanya or Flavour or most kids out on any African street. Sadly, I didn't see any of that. Shoulder movements, yes. Nifty dance styles, yes. Waist and ukwu-licious tinz? Mba.

EDIT: One of our readers sent us this compilation of AFRICAN WAISTS! They're everything!

Don Jazzy has a part in the middle where he was helping some girls with their yoga. It was lolzy for sure, but by this point I don on spectacle, searching for this waist.

The base didn't thump enough to make me forget the video, the lyrics weren't deep enough to make me want to learn them, the concept wasn't authentic enough to make me marvel. All of which was made worse by a random MTN product placement. No, I didn't understand that either.

All of this upsets me because I actually really like Ms Savage. I think she has a great voice when it's not being auto-tuned to death and a face that has that excellent mix - girl next door vs too divalicious to actually live next door.

I look forward to a song called African Waist that will show me waist like my girl crushes - Toolz and Joselyn Dumas. Amin Jesu!

Ooooh, this song brings back all sorts of memories! Way back before we had Mavin Records and YBNL, there was only one record label that mattered - the giants were KENNIS MUSIC - Keke Kenny Ogungbe and the oh so handsome Dayo (D1) Adeneye.

We didn't listen to anything unless Kennis music released it, and every young man, woman and goat sat in front of Jumobi Adegbesan and AIT Jamz in the afternoon.

And then along came Paul 'Play' Dairo, son of the great afro-juju legend IK Dairo, and he took us to CHURCH with this choooon! The second Mo So Rire came on, we were all grateful to our Master Jesus and shaking our money-makers all at the same time.

The video is so bad, but omo, it didn't matter because it's not even as if we had data at the time. You just needed the latest CD by Obaino and you were blasting the song on repeat!

Seyi Sodimu was actually one of the main drivers of the afrosoul music genre in the early 90s before the likes of Asa and Nneka came and took over since the millennium era.

As far back as 1997, he released his hit single “Love Me Jeje“ which went on to being one of the Nigerian love classics in the 90s, gathering generous airplay while rising up the charts.

Seyi is currently based in Washington DC, USA and is still very much in the music making business. He runs Good Life Entertainment.

Everybody knows that the British are the masters of understatement, but one would think that on a case as serious as sexual consent, they would take a more direct approach, but even here, it would seem they have found a way to tactfully advise on how to make sure that one stays on the right side of the law when it comes to when you can or cannot sleep with someone and when it becomes force.

It starts off as being so simple, but it quickly becomes clear that if you can understand when someone does not want a cup of tea, it shouldn't be too hard to understand when someone doesn't want sex.

Mark the name Segun Pryme, he's a fast-rising comedian to watch out for! We haven't stopped laughing since we first saw his video last night - a short skit on his 'Yoruba Network News' covering the trending social media war between Vivica A. Fox and 50 Cent.

Quick update for you people who actually have work: Vivica A. Fox went on American TV show Watch What Happens Live hosted by Andy Cohen and insinuated that her ex, 50 Cent, is gay. This is due to the suspect picture he took with Soulja Boy for the cover of the magazine XXL.

"Fiddy" who we all know to be a permanently chill-free zone went a little crazy on his Instagram and Twirra, blasting her botched boob job, her acting skills, and...her fondness for licking his anus. Toh.

Although she has denied it, the story has stuck and the memes and jokes won't quit coming. The BEST though, is this short news clip by Segun Pryme:

As you may have seen on social media, the weigh in for the African Boxing Union title erupted into chaos today when Joseph Lamptey (Ghana) disrespected the Nigerian flag by snatching it from our MEGASTAR Larry Ekundayo's hands and throwing it on the floor! Lamptey had been upset that he had not been given a Ghanaian flag at the weigh in, so he grabbed the Nigerian flag from Nigerian Larry Ekundayo and threw it on the ground. Basmati behaviour.

Lamptey's actions have not been well received by social media, with people up in arms about it. Indeed, Ekundayo and Lamptey had to be physically restrained at this disrespect. Well, Lamptey, anyway. Larry the Lion just laughed. Na tomorrow we go sabi wetin dey.

Football is wicked oh – The story of Dortmund vs Paderborn yesterday [WATCH]

One of the major traits that makes the game of football tick include its classic unpredictability and sometimes, wickedness. How can you score first in a game, celebrate the goal like crazy, and afterwards, be beaten black and blue with a heavy weight of 7 goals to your meagre 1. That was the story of Paderborn as they got humbled by Borussia Dortmund in the German DFB-Pokal game played yesternight.

Dortmund ran out comfortable 7-1 winners against second-tier side SC Paderborn in the DFB Pokal second round fixture.

The visitors went in front early on after a mistake from Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki, who gifted the ball Srdan Lakic who simply slotted the ball into an open goal.

However, that lead would last just three minutes as Gonzalo Castro slid the ball through for Adrian Ramos, who rounded the on-rushing Lukas Kruse to level for the home side.

Dortmund then edged themselves in front after some poor Paderborn defending, when a midfielder unintentionally hooked the ball back into his own box for Castro to latch on to and the former Bayer Leverkusen man passed the ball under Kruse to make it two.

It was three just before half-time as Shinji Kagawa played a one-two with Marcel Schmelzer in the box before the Japanese international delicately chipped the ball over the goalkeeper from a tight angle.

Ilkay Gundogan made it four from the penalty spot after Matthias Ginter was brought down in the box by Dominik Wydra, and the German international sent the goalkeeper the wrong way from 12 yards out.

Castro scored his second of the night after Gundogan split the defence with a through ball and the 28-year-old finished by passing the ball beyond the reach of Kruse.

The final two came in quick succession late on as Henrikh Mkhitaryan played in substitute Lukas Piszczek for an open goal before the Polish international returned the favour, with the Armenian winger making it seven late on as Thomas Tuchel's men advance to the next round.

“You wanna live long? Avoid men”, 109-year-old Woman says

Well, this centenarian believes the hazzle of having a man in a woman's life can definitely reduce feminine life expectancy. In as much as some won't agree with her trenchant declaration, I'm sure it will fuel fundamentally feminist views out there.

The oldest living woman in Scotland -- 109 -- says the secret to her longevity is this: Eat your porridge and avoid men. Centenarian Jessie Gallan, who never married, was born in a tiny two-room farm cottage where she slept "top-to-tail" with her five sisters and a brother on a straw mattress, reported The Daily Mail.

Gallan told the newspaper that her "secret to a long life has been staying away from men. They're just more trouble than they're worth." She noted that she also "made sure that I got plenty of exercise, eat a nice warm bowl of porridge every morning and have never gotten married."

Last year when she turned 108, she credited her porridge -- but not avoiding men -- as the reason for her longevity.

While the oldest person in Scotland, Gallan is not the oldest person in the world. That honor goes to Misao Okawa of Japan, who celebrated her 116th birthday in March. She has been a widow for 83 years (her husband died in 1931) -- suggesting that she perhaps shares Gallan's view about avoiding men if you want to live long.

Last year, a national survey of centenarians in the United States found that the secrets to long life include plenty of time with friends and family and a commitment to fitness.

The new video for D'Prince's addictive song 'Oga Titus' is out and even though it hasn't been a week, the Mavin Music Magic is alive and well as it has racked up more than 55,000 views.

I have to say - I really like the highlife ones going on underground, and we all know that Don Jazzy is something of an alchemist - mixing bits of things that shouldn't go together and coming out with pure gold - but I can't say the song set me on fire.

What was even weirder - all of the original artwork seems to have Mr Ibu on it, but Okon (Imeh Bishop Umoh) starred as Oga Titus.

Ooh! Also, we got to see Don Jazzy reprise the role of Judge Jazzy. When I tell you people that this man is Jazzy by name, jazzman by nature, you thought I was joking. You whip up a furore about Judge Jazzy and then you release a song? He was born to be a don, no doubt.

NASA Finds Evidence of Water On Mars, But Since Humans Are Useless…

The news has emerged that NASA has found evidence of flowing water on the planet Mars, and this seems like it could be good news.

Firstly, this excited me because science. I am always enthralled by breakthroughs and new horizons. Secondly, signs of water - if the Big Bang Theory is to be believed - means the possibility of signs of life. So...you know, the little green men might be real after all.

After the original whoosh of excitement though, I thought why are we always looking for the greener grass on the other side? Humans have single-handedly halved the life form on earth: there are thousands of animals extinct thanks to the our wanton behaviour. Cecil the Lion was killed and I have friends who were dismissive of my outrage at the time stating that the amount he paid justifies his hunt. We do not CARE about Earth. We abuse it, we lay it to waste, we decimate it through dismissal, selfishness, and instant gratification. If Mars were ever to be become habitable, we would probably do the same with it.

Pata pata, I think it will become the new Marbella and people will go there to "get a little sun", but this new discovery just further reminds me how useless we humans are.

David Cameron: UK to Accept ‘Thousands’ More Syrian Refugees

The UK is to provide resettlement to "thousands" more Syrian refugees in response to the worsening humanitarian crisis, David Cameron has announced.
He said the extra refugees would come from UN camps bordering Syria, and not from among people already in Europe. Britain would act with its "head and heart", he said, as he pledged to find long-term solutions to the crisis.

The prime minister has previously said accepting more people was not the simple answer to the situation.

Speaking in Lisbon after talks with his Portuguese counterpart, Mr Cameron said the UK had a "moral responsibility" to help those displaced by the four-year conflict in Syria, adding that more details would be set out next week following discussions with organisations working in the region.

Calls for the UK to take in more refugees have intensified after the publication of a picture of the body of a drowned three-year-old Syrian boy, Aylan Kurdi, washed up a Turkish beach.

Speaking to the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire programme, the boy's aunt, Tima Kurdi, said his and his brother's death should be "a wake-up call for the whole world".

Cameron isn't changing his statement - he is still adamant that just opening the gates and reacting to heartstrings is not the solution, but, as the crisis gets worse and the public and political pressure grows, the prime minister does now accept that Britain has a moral duty to do more.

No targets have been agreed and none is likely to be set today - although Mr Cameron has talked of taking thousands more - but he is unlikely to satisfy his many critics who want Britain to take in tens of thousands of refugees and who have been outraged by his reluctance to act.
