The Pride of An Edo Woman – Fatima Johnson Arukwe

Edo-Queen The Pride of An Edo Woman - Fatima Johnson Arukwe Beauty Living
I’m a proud Edo woman, a daughter of the soil. In my veins flow blood as red and thick as the red Edo earth.

Tall as Idia I stand.
Strong as Iyoba, I conquer.
Gallantly as Emotan, I walk.

I’m an Edo woman, my wrapper is tied high up around my chest.
Beads on my head in a fine knit work, sewn to my braids.
Beads on my wrists and ankles.
White, folded handkerchief shyly tries to hide my smile but fails.

Yes, I am an Edo woman and I dance tapping my feet rhythmically to the tunes
While my waist moves gracefully with my arms moving in a way that makes my palms face upwards and downwards in turns.

I am an ovbi oto; a daughter of the soil.

This is my dynasty; this is my pride.
