Anthony Joshua defeats Wladimir Klitschko in epic fight at Wembley

He was snubbed by Nigeria in 2008 when he showed interest to represent the country at the Beijing Olympics, but now, we can proudly chant the ‘Olaseni Oluwafemi‘ part in his name, calling him our son at every whim! Ha-ha! We sure like better thing! Well, who doesn’t?

Anthony Joshua has defeated Wladimir Klitschko to become the unified heavyweight champion of the world by adding the WBA belt to his IBF title, knocking down the big Ukrainian in the 11th round

The 27-year-old Briton was knocked down in the sixth round of an exhilarating fight but showed determination to bounce back and twice had Klitschko on the canvas in the penultimate round before the referee stepped in.

After a fairly even start, Klitschko upped the ante at the start of the fourth, connecting with a two-fisted attack early on, and although Joshua steadied himself, he ended up being outboxed for the first time in the bout.

Round five saw Joshua put Klitschko down on his knees with a strong left hand, but the Ukrainian veteran responded with a number of uppercuts which left his English opponent on the ropes.

The home fans then feared the worst in the sixth when Joshua was hit with an enormous right which had him down on the canvas, but he managed to survive until the end of the round.

Klitschko was unable to finish off his opponent in the seventh, which turned out to be more sedate than the previous two, and by the eighth, Joshua appeared to have recovered.

Both fighters continued to give their all until the 11th round saw Klitschko sent down with a brutal uppercut followed by an immediate flurry.

Even though the challenger stood, he was dropped by a left hook again moments later, and then stood again, only for referee David Fields to stop the fight with Klitschko pinned against the ropes.

  • Why should he represent a country dat will useless his career and let him starve wen his bones can no longer carry him? I’ll advice any sports man to seek for greener pasture else where until dis Nigerian system starts understanding dat sportsmen go tru so many difficulties to get to der prime unlike our senators who sit in air-conditioned offices and yet get all d allowances for virtually doing nothing!

  • It pisses me off when anyone refer to Joshua as Nigeria born cos Nigeria never gave him a life. England did. Joshua does not fight like a Nigerian rather he fights like an English man with every English monster in him that makes Britain Great. Congratulations England Joshua, you are truly a monster in the ring.

  • He is a better boxer today because he is not fighting for Nigeria. Let me tell you my brothers and sisters nothing is working in this country. Don’t think of doing anything for Naija because that will be waste

  • Zidane was snubbed by Algeria. There is no armour against faith. Victor Igali represented Canada to freestyle Olympic gold and legendary. He is at present Nigerian Wrestling Federation president and coach…

  • Lesson derived from this is very clear, continue in what you know best and try to show the world that can do it by making a way for yourself. Assuming this guy was not financially buoyant how can he travel abroad not to talk of reach this level. That y many youth in Nigeria are running to abroad to make their names. Nigeria are wasting thousands of talents everyday because our leaders fail to help youths.
