So today Arsene Wenger announced his resignation as Arsenal Manager effective end of season and Arsenal fans worldwide be like:

Wenger out!

While Rival club supporters be like:

Wenger Out!

Wenger still has one year left on the new contract he signed at the end of last season, but has chosen now as the ‘right time’ to walk away from the Gunners.

“After careful consideration and following discussions with the club, I feel it is the right time for me to step down at the end of the season,”

His announcement of resignation comes after a long period of under performance by the club. A nine year trophy drought plus worsening premier league performances led to fan protests and calls of “Wenger Out” and jokes about Arsenal’s love for the fourth position became a common feature.

Recent poor performances notwithstanding do not take away from his long list of achievements. Winning the league trophy and FA cup in his first full season with the club and going on in 2003/2004 to be the first English team to go through an entire season unbeaten. His careful management and frugal spending also led to the club moving from Highbury to the brand new Emirates Stadium in 2006.
