It is so great to hear that the good we do is as recognised as the flaws. After Cameron’s “fantastically corrupt” comment, it seemed like once again, the western world only associated us with negatives. But BOOM! Bolanle Austen-Peters and her fabulous Wakaa the musical has changed all that!
Yesterday was the opening night; Wakaa the Musical made its West End debut. The venue was packed, the play was amazing, the crowd was excited.
Little did the cast and crew realise that BBC was in the house! They brought their A-game and the BBC recognised that. Speaking to the producer, Ms Austen-Peters, afterwards, it was clear that she was excited and happy.
I have yet to see the play, I will be in attendance tonight!!! I will be bringing you my own review of the show tomorrow. Na dat time una go see my real face!
For now, I am just pleased that when I saw the pictures posted online of the audience, the majority were black viewers.
This has been a long-term bug bear for me with the musicals like Fela et al, so this amount of support from the Nigerian community is awesome.
Congratulations, Bolanle Austen-Peters and the entire cast for shining a positive spotlight on Nigeria once again!
