When life dies in Nigeria, we no longer seem to blush. We are so used to the happening of death that it doesn’t sink in anymore. Ronke Shonde‘s death didn’t do different despite the inauspiciously acrimonious stench that surrounds it. We reduced her death in the alleged hands of lethal domestic violence, we reduced it to a battle of lexis and structure, of mere semantics on twitter and Facebook. Pity.
Well, the 51-year old husband of the late mother of two, will be tried for murder of latter, and what strand he still holds dearly to at freedom, is provocation prompted by perfidy.
The autopsy report said in part, that Ronke died of a “Respiratory Seizure and bruises to head”, and two days later, the husband that allegedly fled from the scene has been charged for murder….hmmmn.
We heard, that there’s an ambit in Law, that makes room to stake for provocation in this manner of matricide….oh sigh…!
In all, we say, may this trial do a dear bit to douse the abject nature of domestic and domesticated violence in Nigeria.
