Thus, a part of one of Dagrin‘s songs went…like all of us, he desired long life. The virtuoso wordsmith was so full of life and musical ingenuity, so much his death sent a shockwave across the nation.

On this day, 6 years ago, the Nigerian entertainment scene was thrown into mourning when Olaitan Oladapo Olaonipekun, popularly known as Dagrin was pronounced dead, exactly eight days after he was involved in a fatal auto accident in front of Alakara Police Station along Agege Motor Road, Mushin, Lagos.

He died at 6pm on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Lagos State Teaching Hospital, LUTH at the age of 26 and was buried on Friday, April 30, 2010 at the Ebony Millennium Private Vault, Atan Cemetery. He was 22 years old.

“Barack O’Grin”, “Lyrical Weyrey”, “Chief Executive Omo-ita”, “Akogun”, were some of his many intriguing nicknames.  🙂

Apart form his evergreen tracks, to most of us, Dagrin can never die, as his story of an ability to wage through the challenges of humble beginnings and then channel exuberant swagger into a productive cause, remains an inspiration to many till date.
