Harvey Weinstein sacked from his company following sexual harassment claims

Hmmm…the chickens are coming home to roost. Women are speaking out against powerful men and damning the consequences. And guess what? The ladies are actually being listened to! The latest name on the list of noise makers is Harvey Weinstein, and he’s been a bad, bad boy.

Just imagine this break dance: Harvey Weinstein has been ousted from his own company, The Weinstein Company, following sexual harassment claims made against him by several women. What is this life if not a pot of burnt beans? His own company. Isn’t that why people go self-employed? That whole “I’m literally un-fire-able” routine? Turns out if you keep touching women inappropriately, you can!

A statement released by the board of the company said Weinstein has been terminated from his position as co-chairman of the company.

The statement said his termination was a result of “new information about misconduct by Harvey Weinstein that has emerged in the past few days.”

Harvey had, according to The Hollywood Reporter, been offered to settle with the company and leave, but he refused, saying the scandal would blow over. Boy, was he wrong. How could he have thought this would blow over?? There’s precedent: just ask Tiger Woods, Usher, Bill Cosby, and just about every male man who ever dabbled inappropriately. It just takes one woman to break rank and the others follow suit!

The sexual allegation claims uncovered by The New York Times goes back decades, with several women still coming forward to recount details of their experience with the producer. Weinstein is reported to have reached financial settlements with at least eight women in over the years.

The firing of Weinstein from his company has been described by several in the industry as a welcome move.

Jenni Konner, executive producer of “Girls” said it “is going to scare any man in Hollywood using his power for anything but making movies and television,” and described it as “moment we look back on and say, ‘That’s when it all started to change.’”

Already, female icons in the industry have been washing their hands of him. Meryl Streep has spoken out against him, saying she was “appalled” by the “disgraceful” news.

She went on to praise “the intrepid women who raised their voices to expose this abuse”, calling them “heroes”.

Dame Judi Dench has also issued a statement saying she was “completely unaware” of the “horrifying” claims. The British veteran also praised those who had spoken up.

“I offer my sympathy to those who have suffered, and wholehearted support to those who have spoken out,” she said.

Harvey, sorry for ya-self!
