Impressive Turnout As Voting Commences In Oyo LG Election


Accreditation and voting commenced simultaneously today across many polling centres in Oyo State as the local government election got underway amid impressive turnout.

The exercise held in the 33 local governments and 35 Local Council Development Areas newly created by the state government.

NAN reported that personnel of the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) were sighted at polling units as well as strategic locations in the state.

Key stakeholders largely participated, and the present Governor of Oyo State, Ajimobi came out with his wife, Florence Ajimobi to vote at Ibadan South West Ward 9.

Ahead of the Local Government election, the Oyo State Police Command warned citizens against any act of violence before, during and after the election.

The warning became imperative following intelligence at the disposal of the Command to the effect that some individuals, and groups were making sinister plans to disrupt the exercise.

Such individuals, groups and their sponsors were advised in their own interest to jettison the clandestine and evil plans in the interest of peace.

Similarly, politicians were advised to play the game by the rules, and enjoin to warn their supporters or associates to eschew any act capable of threatening the democratic process.

With 4,783 polling units, 5,260 polling points, 610 wards, over 10,000 Ad-hoc staff, 12 Political parties, 12 Civil Society Organizations as Election Monitors, Oyo State Local Government Election turned out to be a success.
