It is now getting farcical that there are still people who believe that this man is purely Spirit-led. Today, it was reported that Dr David Oyedepo, the Bishop of the Living Faith Church worldwide, threatened those criticising the school fees charged by Covenant University with the wrath of God and halitosis.
The man claims that the fees were approved by God Himself (and how can anyone question a God who concerns Himself with the fiscal administrations of a tertiary institution?).
“The school fees has God’s approval and is in accordance with the quality of facilities provided by the university in meeting the educational needs of the nation,” Oyedepo says.
In this Buhari economy?! But the good pastor has an app for that. He says the current economic meltdown was predicted but committed Christians will be exempted from the burn. Ah, Christianity according to the holy books of trade by barter – if you’re a committed Christian (this is usually provable by sending your child to Covenant University and/or exorbitant tithes and offerings), your coffers will never run empty. Praise God!
But that’s not all God can do. For His final trick, God has decided that he can’t be arsed with the American elections, the crisis in Aleppo, the Israel-Palestinian beef, or even the fate of all those little children on Facebook that He can save since they now finally have one million likes. No, God has decided He rather likes the corporate lifestyle and has joined His main man Oyedepo on the board of directors of the Living Faith Church so that together, they navigate the murky but metaphysical realm of school expansion and the attendant monitoring of fees .
Yahweh, no longer concerned with Faith, Love, Hope now occupies Himself with university profit and loss accounts. Why use your powers for Great Floods or the Greater Good when You can just smite Oyedepo critics with mouth odour should they dare to challenge the end-of-year accounts? A smite so great that only God’s co-director Oyedepo can resolve? Turns out God is #TeamNineToFive.
The only thing more absurd than Mr Oyedepo’s utterances are the goons that will still come out and defend this arrogant and blatant mockery of God.
Don’t come for me. I have no interest in this racket. To he who brain is given, sense is expected.
