It wasn’t meant to happen. Justin Gatlin was older and slower, and Usain Bolt was the favourite, unbeatable. And yet, Gatlin came out of the stocks and ran like the wind, and our Thunderbolt, our firm favourite and idol took home a disappointing bronze in what was to be his final ever 100m race.

It is terrible that the winner was booed by almost all of the 56,000 people in the stadium.
Imagine becoming world champion only to have the fans boo you and chant the name of the guy in 3rd place. London fans are savage #London2017

But it didn’t seem to bother the star none. Bolt, showing class and grace to the very end stated that the Justin Gatlin did not deserve the boos, and called the winner a great competitor. Naturally, he is gutted at not being able to take home the gold medal on this final game, but he knew he didn’t bring his all in those hundred metres.

Usain Bolt hugged the winner as soon as the race ended, and Gatlin responded by bowing to the G.O.A.T.
There were no losers tonight; only amazing sports. Congratulations, Gatlin, you earned it, deserved it, and this Londoner is proud to call you a winner!
