#LazyNigerianYouths: President Buhari Condemns Us at the Commonwealth Business Forum

1

Are people surprised that #LazyNigerianYouths is trending? It’s not like this is the first time our President will call us names. In fact, if anything, down-talking Nigerian Youths has been one of his greatest achievements after blaming the opposition party for everything.

“About the economy, we have a very young population, our population is estimated conservatively to be 180 million. This is a very conservative one. More than 60 percent of the population is below 30, a lot of them haven’t been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria is an oil producing country, therefore, they should sit and do nothing, and get housing, healthcare, education free.” – PMB

Honestly, bawo la shey debi? Ta ni a se? Who did we offend? How did we get here?

It’s like we took a private jet, one way cruise to the land of trouble and went to select the most embittered citizen of Nigeria as our president.

Excuse me, sir, who hurt you?

It’s quite unfortunate that our President sees every international platform as an opportunity to throw shade at his own people. At this point, one must wonder, is it possible that President Buhari has a secret agenda to use his abroad journeys to rub our condition in our faces?

This is not about you, Mr. President! Opportunities to speak on international forums are not about you. You are not invited to represent your personal bias or sentiments on international forums. Neither are you invited to forums to groan about the same people who gave you the opportunity to represent them.

Abi? E ma gba mi ke? We hired somebody to convince the world that we are a people of worth and substance and he is busy badmouthing us everywhere? Just at that moment when PMB was asked to make a remark about investment in Nigeria and world trade? Just when he was supposed to seize an opportunity to entice investors to the economy, he boldly claims that 60% of the country are not willing to work?

Any sensible investor will see that as a statement of certain risk and it would only take a foolish one to step one more foot into Nigeria. Is it not time we realised there is a need to switch our marketing agency?

The All Progressive Congress (APC) must be biting its nails right now. Even their twitter handle has since made a disclaimer rejecting the President’s statements. This won’t stop us from remembering that they brought this situation upon us. APC brought this trouble onto a 180 million people. Nigerians, Get your PVC. Don’t forget these assaults on our general welfare. Vote wisely.
