#LiberteEgaliteFraternite – the world mourns with France but we remain defiant

France has suffered yet another setback in the hands of terrorists yesterday. A truck ploughed through a crowd, killing more than 85 men, women and children.

The city of Nice is devastated as a driver, now named as Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, drove at high speed through a crowd. The people had gathered to celebrate Bastille Day – a national day of celebration for France.

Witnesses say the speeding lorry swerved and zigzagged in an apparent attempt to hit more people. He claimed many lives before being shot dead by police on the scene. Guns and grenades were reportedly found inside the lorry, as well as a national ID card, stating that he is a Tunisian-born, French citizen.

France has been under siege for a while.  But even as Prime Minister Manuel Valls declares three days of national mourning for the victims, the country remains defiant that terrorism will NOT win.

#LiberteEgaliteFraternite! #PorteOuverteNice!

The world stands with the Galls today as the chants of #LiberteEgaliteFraternite fill the air. Nice has already rallied with the hashtag #PorteOuverteNice

Porte Ouverte, meaning Open Door, has been used by many Twitter users in Nice offering their homes to those needing somewhere to shelter.

Users encouraged each other not to share their addresses online, but to privately send them through direct messages.

“Use the hashtag #PortesOuvertesNice for a roof or consolation. We are with you”

As France continues to tighten its security measures, one thing remains certain:

The terrorists will not win this war.

There are a lot more of us than there are of them.

Peace and love will overcome darkness and evil.

Every time.
