MEDALS: Are Nigerian Olympians being unfairly compared with the Paralympians?

Nigerian Olympians and their Paralympian colleagues: The Paralympics has been on and we have been blessed with many Nigerian medallists.

“What the able bodied can’t do for Nigeria, the physically-challenged persons are doing”

A lot of people, tabloids too, have used the line above to describe the medallist cruise our compatriots are having in Rio right now.

But I find this statement somewhat insulting, misplaced and very pregnant with insensitivity. A slap on the faces of our Nigerian Olympians – people like Chierika the Rower; the “AiNefaHexperredit” guy; Efe the boxer; Siasia and his boys; Aruna the table tennis guy, and all other members of our contingent to the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Every one of them, that donned the green-white-green colours despite the grim-what-grin realities that pelted the preps and mauled their mojos, had actually won a medal already as they left MMIA or Nnamdi Azikwe.

Our powerful and proud Paralympics deserve every ounce of praise we can muster, but, this should be done at the differential expense of our contingent to Rio Olympics.

Stop using this sentence please, it is blatantly secern. Stop it.
