Michelle Obama has been a first among first ladies. A veritable Queen of Hearts. She has seduced and enthralled us with her charm, grace and strength; virtues laid over steely Chicago nerves that lets you know the lady is not for turning.
And as her husband’s time in the White House draws to a close, the final round of farewells begin. It is a time of immense pride that the first Black president did not mess up (no scandals); sadness that such a dignified couple will be leaving the White House; and extreme fear about what the next four years will bring.
But Michelle Obama, always an elegant light in the eye of any storm, gave her most moving and touching of speeches as her final official talk. Dedicated to America’s youth, she encouraged and led them on. Promised them of an America to believe in. I do not know if that is true; the world is about to become very messy very soon as news of Putin’s involvement in getting Trump elected comes to light, but boy, do I want to believe. Desperately, I want to believe that the world’s leading power is still the land of the free and the home of the brave. Because nothing else will do.

She asks if she made us proud? Undoubtedly. Undeniably. A Queen among queens.
