The moment the Oba of Lagos publicly humiliates the Ooni of Ife

47

I don’t quite know what to make of this. The Oba of Lagos publicly humiliates the Ooni of Ife. It is no secret that the Oba of Lagos considers himself above many people and many things. He has no filter and the Igbos and even Obasanjo has experienced this on more than one occasion. He is a king though, and we cover for him even when we perhaps should not. His title is Kabiyesi – there is none who can question him.

On the other hand, regardless of his age, the Ooni of Ife is the gatekeeper of the Yoruba people. A god made man, he is superior, higher than any other Yoruba king. In any gathering of Yoruba people, he stands head and shoulders above them all. This is because he is our king, our father, our sovereign ruler.

So imagine my shock when I see this:

What could cause this level of snubbing or indeed lack of acknowledgement? And if the older king had a problem with our younger liege, why would he not address the issues privately. This does not look at all good on the Yoruba kingdom, and I can only hope the Ooni of Ife has a strong and swift response to this rudeness.

There are many that feel this is self-inflicted. They believe the young Ooni has not exerted his leadership role forcefully enough; preferring to fly around the world instead.

I stand by his desire to take the beauty of the culture worldwide. Many of us in the diaspora feel cut off from the umbilical cord. With no mother ship to look to, we blend with every other nation and tribe, leaving ours behind. So much so that there are Brazilians more in tune with our culture than many of us are. Of what use is the name and the palace grounds if you just sit in Ife surrounded by mothballs and rumours that you were once a god amongst men?

Others put the blame on the Ooni’s refusal to follow the ancient ways to the letter. The young king has made no secret of the fact that he is a Christian.

This might go some way to explaining Oba Rilwan Akiolu’s disdain but it’s still surely not enough for this behaviour.

Whatever the case might be, it is time for Ooni Alayeluwa Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi – Ojaja II to take his rightful position as the head of Yorubaland because some of these kings? They play too much.

Ki ade pe lori! Ki baba pe lese!!

  • Oba of Lagos needs be cautioned by yoruba elders and be reminded he occupies a throne of honour which he should not drag in the mud by his show of envy to the rising profile of a young Oba. He should also be told respect is reciprocal.

  • In the tradition of Yoruba no oba supreme than Ooni of ife, also it is forbidden to frequently seeing Ooni in all occasions, therefore Ooni should prevent the tradition so as to save his integrity from arrogance of envious of Obas.

  • Oba of Lagos is a joke…..lolz, I blame onni greeting him in the first place…..young onni?…that’s a fallacy….he who dare fire will surely be burnt…. Onni is fire…..onni is death…..Oba of Lagos is not even in the history.

  • Me o l like the maturity display by the Ooni of Ife.the action of Oba of Lagos is uncalled for at that big gathering. He should have handled their differences in a more mature way because he is older than Ooni of Ife(let us live in unity and love.Yoruba o ni baje o

  • It is uncouth for him to have acted that way as a traditional ruler towards another traditional ruler. The Ife throne is superior to that of Lagos, regardless of the age of the person occupying the throne. Oba of Lagos who I know so well as a police commissioner in Kebbi State is acting true to script like he did many years back when I went to his office regarding a case involving a colleague of mine in police custody. His demeanor and appearance then led me to a conclusion. I also remembered his altercation as commissioner of police with the then fiery Emir of Gwandu, Mustapha Jokolo. He should apologize to the Ooni.

  • Even number one of Yoruba land a head of state and democratic President Aremu Olusegun Obasanjo prostrate before oni of ife how much more oba of Lagos who have no trace in Yoruba oba history, he has planted a seed he should be expecting the fruits arrogant king.

  • “Tii omode ba koo Iyan alee… Awon Agbagba lotu Ife a fii Itan balee”

“The late Ooni of Ife the legendary Sir Adesoji Tadenikawo Aderemi and incumbent Awujale of Ijebu land Oba Sikiru Adetona arriving for the installation of Chief Ladoke Akintola as the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland.

As a mark of respect all the Obas at the event disown their traditional horse tail by dropping them on the floor to show the supremacy of Ooni as Arole Oodua Omo Oranmiyan in Oyo in 1965”

    • You guys tell way too many lies, nobody can take yoruba people seriously anymore. You have 419 genes. professional liars. Your history is the biggest lies of all. The ooni is just a village head eventhough his village is important religiously.
