N32M raised in 3 days for #SaveMayowa – somehow, Humanity hasn’t lost it all

Three days ago, social media was awash with a SOS campaign for a daring lady, Mayowa Ahmed, a 30-year old sickle cell carrier who now suffers death-threatening ovarian cancer. It was said that she needed 32 million naira to undergo treatment in America in order to stand a chance at living, and in these 3 days, Humanity rallied, Nigerians rallied, and the target has been met, even surpassed.

A gofundme account opened on her behalf is still trickling in with money as at the time of making this post, and her Access Bank account was announced to have received close to 5,000 donations in varying sums totalling 32 million naira and exceeding it.

Some hours ago, popular actress Kemi ‘Lala’ Akindoju confirmed via her Instagram page, that the money for Mayowa’s treatment had been completed after a friend of hers, Asiwaju Foye sent out a series of tweets about the good news.

This is quite inspiring, that in the midst of all the chaos that humanity as endured and experienced especially in the past few weeks, that despite the sorrow brought upon the universe by the acts of soke terrorist few, Humanity can still express overwhelming humaneness as this #SaveMayowa example just proved.

Humanity, despite its failings, will remain the universe’s best creation. Even God said it, that “And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do” – God concurs to humanity’s strength in resolution.

I’m sure Nigerians make a huge portion out of the donors, and it’s something worth taking home, worth holding on to, and worth “overestimating” – For what’s worth, we Nigerians outweigh our odds when we realize it, and hopefully, this ability to outweigh odds will soon be applied to the way we elect our government and the way we want ourselves governed.

Actress, Toyin Aimakhu visited Ahmed Mayowa to rally support and funds for her too…..commendable!

Mayowa will be on her way to the US for treatment by weekend, and that’s courtesy of our humaneness.

This is absolutely inspiring, and may Mayowa survive and live to tell this story victoriously!

Delectable Mayowa before the ailment struck….

Viva ! Naija !
