They stated this final resolve on Thursday, 28th of July, during a meeting at the house of the leader of the forum, Chief Felix Aiyegbusi, in Arigidi-Akoko.
It would be recalled that few weeks ago, the Elders had announced the decision to zone the governorship post to Akoko-North, giving the reasons of equity, fairness and unity of Akoko. That decision effectively cut down the number of aspirants to three namely, Olusegun Abraham, Tunji Abayomi and Gani Dauda, and, it was said then that the Elders from the region, that is, Akoko North, should provide one aspirant out of the 3, who they deem competent, practical, and strong enough to unseat the PDP and transform Ondo state indeed.
It was as a result of this that the Akoko elders embraced the Olusegun Abraham decision, saying that he alone possesses the practical ability and exposure to give Ondo a prosperous economic direction and cast out poverty in the land.
In the words of Chief Aiyegbusi, “We the APC Akoko elders are happy to endorse the candidacy of Olusegun Abraham as our next Governor in Ondo state. After many consideration and consultation within ourselves, we believe that by his antecedence, Olusegun Abraham possesses the capacity to turnaround the economic and social fortunes of Ondo state and her people”.
He added, “Asides from the fairness, equity and unity of Akoko that this decision represents, we the Akoko elders have identified with the truth that Akoko land and Ondo has suffered so much economic sickness that has affected our lives and our children’s so much despite our natural abundance, and this has made us look in the direction of our son, Abraham, who has the experience and economic know-how to help Ondo grow in wealth”.
One of the elders, Chief Elemeje, also said the decision to opt for Olusegun Abraham goes beyond the APC party primaries, saying that, “we need a candidate who isn’t only competent and honest, but a candidate who is also popular and loyal enough to win the general election in November, and thankfully, God has given us that candidate in Olusegun Abraham”
As it were, the Akoko-North zoning decision had already turned out to be a popular one among the Akoko people, and this latest decision ensures that at least 90%, if not all the party delegates in all the four Local Governments in Akoko, will support and vote for the candidacy of Olusegun Abraham.
A practising industrialist, trained mechanical engineer, capital market investor and humanitarian, Olusegun Abraham has been involved in progressive politics right from the Alliance for Democracy days in Ondo state. His loyalty and contribution to the success of the party at all levels, especially his selfless contribution to the state which he has served in different capacities without collecting payment or a dime, has endeared his candidacy to the hearts of many ahead of this year’s gubernatorial elections in the state.
