Reason #471825 why President Barack Obama is loved: The Human Touch

I do not know if Barack Obama fulfilled all the promises he made before assuming the position of the president of the United States. I am not American, have never lived there, and could never hope to have an opinion one way or the other on whether the lot of the average American has improved or worsened ever since he became POTUS.

I will tell you this for nothing, however: he has left an indelible mark as the President of the People; the leader who understood the common man, woman and child; who spoke their language; who didn’t quit talking to them even when he became the president.

Perhaps it’s all propaganda and PR? We will never know. I would say that if it is, he certainly kept it up long after he no longer had any reason to. He started the campaign as “the hard working presidential candidate” – the one with his sleeves rolled up and his slightly worn shoe soles. To the very last second, he continues to be the coolest, most hard working president America has had in a long time; the president who was never too busy or important for his co-citizens.

May we submit this picture of the President fist bumping a White House janitor as evidence one, y’honour:

Next is this letter from an 8-year old girl from Flint, the town that is currently plagued with rusty pipes throughout such that the water is undrinkable and actually poisonous:

Mr. President,

Hello my name is Mari Copeny and I’m 8 years old, I live in Flint, Michigan and I’m more commonly known around town as “Little Miss Flint”. I am one of the children that is effected by this water, and I’ve been doing my best to march in protest and to speak out for all the kids that live here in Flint. This Thursday I will be riding a bus to Washington, D.C. to watch the congressional hearings of our Governor Rick Snyder. I know this is probably an odd request but I would love for a chance to meet you or your wife. My mom said chances are you will be too busy with more important things, but there is a lot of people coming on these buses and even just a meeting from you or your wife would really lift people’s spirits. Thank you for all that do for our country. I look forward to being able to come to Washington and to be able to see Gov. Snyder in person and to be able to be in the city where you live.

Thank you
Mari Copenny

And the president’s awesome response:

And then, the MOST important part of being a leader – actually keeping your word:

He did not have to; but he did it anyway, and this is why Barack Obama will always have the hearts of the people. America will miss you, Obama. Thank you.
