For Shame! Reuben Abati spills his load over Big Breasts Naija

19

Every time Reuben Abati had goofed in words post-Guardian newspaper, I’ve had to silently mourn a loss. From his latest article on Big Brother Naija, which he apparently watched as Big Breasts Naija, that loss I mourn got renewed. The loss of wit and sound discretion in a man most Nigerian writers and readers adored in his days as a Guardian newspaper editor. I really don’t know what public office does to the ability to hold on to a sound mind. Abati was the real deal until Abuja happened. Ditto Femi Adesina, ditto my darling Tolu Ogunlesi.

Well, Mr. Abati has again proved that nothing stays hidden forever. It is clear that the penis-locking demons of Aso Rock which he wrote about post-Jonathan, actually have him on lock down till now. Because, I don’t know why a supposed elder statesman in Abati’s mould would rather choose to talk masturbatory over a reality TV show by picking on housemates’ breasts, if not for the loss of wit and sound mind. In trying to critic a show, you ended up reeling a theorem for female breasts, and unwittingly expose the voyeur in you. Oh Abati, I mourn.

In the said article, all Abati ended up weaving was hypocrisy. In one breath, you wanted Annie Idibia to twerk for you, and yet upbraided a TBoss for showing what you tagged “mangoes”? All these from a man who enters a room stomach first and who head looks like a burnt version of a sad emoji.

When I eventually decided to write a thought about Oga Abati’s latest evidence of wit’s demise, I wanted to go deep again, talking hard about the early mortality rate of sound mind in subsisting Nigeria, but, my mind wasn’t just having it. My mind is tired of getting stung by the Dinos, Kumapayis and Abatis. So, I just bone, believing that Oga Abati is just bored, probably afraid of bankruptcy (as EFCC is about claiming the remaining drips of Aso Dasuki juice left with him) and is one of the sad victims of the villain called Abuja.

He surely still writes with a gifted pen, but I had to acknowledge the fact that Nigeria is a tragedy, and that it won’t be asking too much, if an Abati, takes the form of one whose wit Abuja has sent to an abattoir, for us Nigerians to consume as listless humour. Oh Abati, I mourn!

  • We want to crucify Abati because he dared speak out against the abnormalities that we have started to accept as a norm. Many of you criticizing Abati know that the decadence in the society has become dehumanizing. Those who are supposed to speak out had pretended as if they didn’t see anything just to prevent such arrogant abuses like Abati is getting now. But how many times has MTN and their cohorts supported any first class graduate, organize either inter departmental or inter university quiz competition? How many of our best brains get N25million naira to get established? We’re going down the drain in every area of life, yet we’re enjoying the drain. God help us.

    • It’s a free and capitalist world. The promoters of the program clearly defined their objectives and deployed the most effective strategy to achieve its objectives. The program was rated 18 which means you are old enough to choose what you desire. Immorality didn’t start today and will not end today. People paid to watch this program because of the benefits derivable. The program was very successful, imagine the number of people who voted much higher than the presidential election votes. You must understand that people derived pleasure from sexuality and any program designed to promote sex will sell. Be honest how many educational reality program do you think will attract this followership? How many people do you think watches wants to be a millionaire show at least that’s a decent program but how many investors do you think would invest their money on it to generate the kind of returns like BBnaija. It’s all about returns and reward.

    • It boils down to what I said, we have lowered our standard of decency. We have accepted everything in the name of pleasure. We have been paying dearly for it; check the quality of graduates we have these days. A graduate that can’t fill his or her NYSC form properly. It’s return andreward, yet we are going down the drain in every area of life.

    • Paul you’re wasting your time trying to explain “reason” to people whose motto are the “end justifies the means”. They don’t care how low you stoop as long as it brings money. Yet they are the same set who will complain about decaying infrastructures, about poor services in government parastatals, about our falling or non existing standard of education yet they wholly embrace and applaud the root cause. All sense of value is completely eroded. The future of this path is bleak and that’s what we’re towing…
