That ‘oooh God’ moment, when you are on your own jejely, and you receive the umpteenth mail alert about yet another Hello cover from another Nigerian artist…One self-effacing Vic O guy just released his rap version, and the joke wasn’t funny at all; I’m sure Pasuma and Tonto Dikeh too must be planning a ‘murder’ of innocent music lovers, soon.
While it’s true that some of us have been struggling to give a nod to some of these covers, I personally started taking cover from them since the time Dayo Amusa’s version decided to bring painful tears to my eardrums. 😥 😥
With these latest one from Vic O, I’ve come to a conclusion that most of these Nigerian artist are actually singing “Goodbye” while trying to sing “Hello”. And, biko, it’s enough jor!
Omawumi,if ain’t mistaken, was probably the first to try her chords on the highly successful Adele single, since hers, we’ve had and heard a plethora of cacophony tagged covers from the Nigerian entertainosphere. Seriously, e dey pain.
Even the Omawumi version that seems to have got the highest traction out of their pool of covers wasn’t the shiznit; Choc city’s Ruby Gyang try small too, and Praiz, hmmn, well, aren’t we used to him covering upandan already??? ? 🙄 🙄. Others include, Sojay, Samklef, and Niyola.
Please oh, if it’s not panadol, it can’t be panadol oh…The original version still dey stuck on replay for Viva Naija Headquarters, and we are patriotic enough to say ‘enough’ to this act of disgracing ourselves in public domain….LOL
