This is heartbreaking news indeed. One of our favourite British comedians, a stalwart and hysterically funny woman, Victoria Wood, has died at age 62 following a short battle with cancer.
The actress, singer and songwriter was awarded an CBE in 2008 but she has been around for some time; she found fame in the 1980s with her TV series Victoria Wood As Seen On TV. Her ability to turn a phrase was like no other, and her down-to-earth Northern delivery was legendary.
She will be remembered with fondness and large, loud belly laughs.
