Weekend Cup-finals Review: The Big shots shot big

1

A lot of cup finals were played across football leagues in the world over the weekend, and, for the ones in Spainish, English and German leagues, most of us football followers were expecting at least one upset to garnish our passion further….it almost happened in each of these three super leagues, but, in the end, the big shots shone brighter than our fantasies….*tears*

In England, Crystal Palace scored in the 78th minute, and Wembley roared…even their coach, Alan Pardew, gave us some moves like jagger. It was just 12 minutes to go and Crystal Palace just needed to defend for those 12 minutes with their lives to eventually clinch the trophy…,but, *coughs*, it’s Manchester United na…Class always tells….Palace lost their 1-0 lead just some 6 minutes later….and late into the extra time, Jesse Lingard goal made Pardew’s shock linger. Manchester United came through….and won their 12th record-equalling FA Cup trophy..

In Germany, Borussia Dortmund were bound to employ counterattacking finesse to spoil Pep Guardiorla’s farewell party and beat Bayern Munich to the DFB-Pokal Cup. And for 90 minutes, both sides absorbed each others’ sweats, deadlocked at full time. An extra 30 minutes didn’t do the magic still. But, come penalties, the Munchen giants proved that Bavaria oozes class no matter what…they won 4-3 on penalties and ensured Pep had another beer bath.

Na Spain pain me pass jor! *tongue out* *madridsta mind*
Sevilla always beats Barcelona na….so what happened na???Barca had to play with 10 men for almost an hour after Mascherano was red-carded, and, the Madridsta in me was already expecting that the Copa del Rey will be on its way to Seville after 90 minutes. But, Barca…chai! they proved yesterday that there’s a defensive clone of Tiki Tika…Messi almost always comes through! Wow…that diminutive guy was kicked, harried, clamped, clubbed and bundled, but, he stood still. After enduring 90 minutes, Barca entered the extra 30 minutes with catalan class – dig deeper and give everything! And, it worked….boom! Jordi Alba, boom! Neymar. …and just like that, Barca won the double for the second straight season…

Barcelona Copa dey rel

No upset for us football “lovers”…*one tear*
