Bits of Borno show us the smiles that persist after Boko Haram

By  |

When you are so removed from the violence, devastation and despair that is Boko Haram and other acts of terrorism, it is easy to forget that the survivors are real people who must carry on after the ordeal.

There is a lot of pain and disenfranchisement happening in Northern Nigeria, no doubt about that. But it fills me with joy to see the smiles in these shots from the Instagram handle @bitsofborno. Mostly shot by Fati Abubakar, these shots were taken in and around Maiduguri. Yes, there’s despair, but this is what humanity looks like:

Many of the children profiled in this album were gifted the clothes and shoes they’re wearing by the Girls Scout of Centre for Teaching and Learning, Abuja.

But this is more than a photo shoot, these pictures show the spirit of mankind – that strong, unbreakable thread that says “Where there’s life, there’s hope.” Amazing stuff!

Interesting, good to see smile on their faces again. The good Lord who’s their strength will settle them.
