I guess they weren’t lying when they said experience is the best teacher, eh?
Raymond Dokpesi, founder DAAR Communications and PDP Chieftain has probably never spared a thought for the state of our prisons or indeed the plight of prisoners, but he certainly changed his tune after spending a few days at Kuje prison recently, only coming out after being granted bail following allegations of fraud and corruption.
All of a sudden, the media mogul is passionate about reforming the prison system, branding the hell holes as “appalling.” We all knew that, dear. We’re not all in cuckoo land, counting our money in millions and trillions. But, as usual, I digress. Bad belle dey kill o, Rachel!
Anyway, Dokpesi has charged the management of his television station to make prison reform a burning issue.
How? Based on? Does his management team double as a Human Rights NGO? Abi does he need some project where he might funnel a few million? 🙂
Dokpesi was arrested on six counts of fraud and was released on bail by Justice Gabriel Kolawole, but stayed in Kuje prison for three days as he couldn’t meet the set bail conditions.
Hmmm…if three days is enough to make Dokpesi want to reform the entire prison system, maybe we should put all the politicians on minimum wage or get them to queue for petrol for their generators. Perhaps we will finally see the Nigeria we dream of.
