Life after Believers’ Bashing: Pastor Anita and life after divorce from Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

So it’s officially over. According to a statement released by her solicitors, on the 8th of February of this year, Pastor Anita, former wife of the Jerry Curled One – Pastor Chris Oyakhilome – became a free woman.

The following statement was written by Attwaters Jameson Hill, lawyers for Anita Ebhodaghe (formerly Anita Oyakhilome).

“We have been requested by Anita Oyakhilome to confirm that on the 8th February 2016 a decree absolute was pronounced in the High Court of Justice Principal Registry of the Family Division dissolving her marriage to Christian Onehirokpeana Oyakhilome.

Anita Oyakhilome would like to confirm that she is no longer involved in or part of Christ Embassy AKA Believers LoveWorld INC.”

I have very little time for pentecostal church leaders and if an entire congregation can be held captive by power and eloquence, it is easy to see how a wife might be held in place for three decades. Particularly if you are the wife of  the ‘President’ as Pastor Chris Oyakhilome is often lovingly referred as by his congregation.

The wedding day: curl activator was still costly then…

I have long held the belief that only the person wearing the shoe knows where it hurts the most, but mouth-opening rumours that come from Believers’ LoveWorld defectors tell me that while I may have no proof of ill-treatment or abuse, at the very least, this lady could be described as long-suffering.

The outpouring of vitriol and insults she received following the news of the separation – not just publicly from her ex-husband but also from his sheep further lets me know that…shall we just say Oluwa was NOT involved in that whole episode.

I am, however, a believer in new chapters and I think Ms Ebhodaghe is handling her new lease of life rather well: a low profile while she concentrates on a blog (, pours out her truths and navigates a new life that is free from the pressures and politics of Mother In Israel and Iya Ijò activities.

It must be difficult to find yourself and know who you are after thirty years of playing the same role and I wish her all the luck and strength in the world.
