What Can You See?
“Write the vision and engrave it so plainly upon tablets that everyone who passes may [be able to] read [it easily and quickly] as he hastens by” Culled from the bible Habakkuk 2:2 Amplified.
It is so easy to reel off a list of things we want to accomplish in our lives if anyone dares to ask us this question. But many times, these things do not happen because our list is full of wishful thinking and requires a fairy Godmother. I discovered a few years ago that the things I want to accomplish in my personal life and business can only happen if I write my vision down, focus on it and work towards a goal. There are so many distractions fighting for our attention, visual representation can make a huge difference to what happens to our goals.
Do you have a Vision Board?
A vision board is a visual representation of our dreams and goals.
A vision board helps us channel our focus on the important things we want to achieve in life. We live our lives in such haste, getting from A to B without the chance to stop and think of the things we really want. A dream board draws you to your goals, it helps you stop and ask yourself “Is this what I really want”. Through your vision board you can also identify if you are moving closer to your goals or far from them.
So how do you create a dream board that will get you all excited to step into 2014 with a spring in your step?
A Vision Board is not just about the luxury things we want in life but more about who we want to be, how we want to inspire the people around us and how we can add value to ourselves and others. For example – I have a list of 50 Top UK Business Millionaires on my board – that represents a need to build my business from where it is to where it can be by helping more people discover and maximise their passion. This will increase my sphere of influence to make a bigger difference to the lives of my family and others too.
A good place to start is to ask yourself “If I could be a fly on a wall, what would I want to hear people say about me?” Maybe someone might say “She has helped me develop such self confidence that I feel as if I can do anything”. I bet that will make you feel really proud of yourself. A Vision Board helps you run with your ideas and vision. It takes you beyond your present circumstances and helps you see a bigger picture.
What You Need…
Large plain poster board (I put mine on of my bedroom walls so I can add to it as I go along)
Glue or pushpins, I use bluetac because mine is on my wall but if you prefer to use a poster board to start off that is fine.
Magazines or online access – find magazines that interest you, maybe one about business owners, top influencial people, magazines about successful people in your specific industry, newspaper cuttings or recreation magazines.
Create Your Reality
Now all you need to do is go through the magazine or search for images online that represent the goals you want to accomplish. Add them to your poster as you go along. My Vision board has more lists than images because lists inspire me more. But if you are visually inspired, then please use as many images as possible and add a few words if need be to remind you of what they represent.
I am a firm believer that we create our world through our words, so speak your vision out loud to yourself. I want more clients, I want to help more women develop self-confidence, I want to open my own café, I want to gain a corporate contract or I want to support more orphans. You will be amazed at how your subconsious-self begins to positively affect your actions.
It is important that you make your goals specific and realistic so you can develop a plan to get you there. Going back to the quote at the top, it says write the vision so the people that pass by may read it. Are you bold enough to share your Vision Board and make yourself accountable to someone else? Go on take a picture when you are done and use it as your phone’s wallpaper to remind you of what you want to do in the months to come. Be brave and send me a photo of your Vision Board too.
Happy Visions and I wish you innumerable business blessings.
