2016 looks like it’s going to be the year rofo-rofo and wahala as now Olamide and Don Jazzy go head to head over Headies

We were not yet over the Davido and Uncle Dele Momodu brouhaha, deciding instead to let Holy Spirit take control – going to church on New Year’s eve and singing “Goodbye to rede rede” –  and deciding to start the year on a zen and peaceful note.

Now Twirra won’t let us be flawless as Olamide and Don Jazzy got into it tonight over the Headies nominations and announced winners.

Under the category of NEXT RATED, a voting category for the most promising upcoming act of the year: Li’l Kesh and Reekado Bankz were up for nomination along with names Kiss Daniel, Cynthia Morgan and Korede Bello.

I was surprised when Reeky Boi was named the winner, but clearly, Olamide was bloody flabbergasted because he commented on the fact that he felt the judging was somewhat skewed and his boy Li’l Kesh should have got the prize instead.

Now, I’m not gonna lie, I have to say that I agree with the YBNL boss. I can’t think of a single Reekado song that he sang without the Mavin choir, but Li’l Kesh has been both consistent and prolific, giving us a song (Shoki) that gave birth to a whole dance movement that was so large, it even got featured in Missy Elliott’s most recent video. And don’t get me started on Gbese or Efejoku.

The residing monarch of the Mavin empire felt this was a snub to his protegee and offered to give Olamide the car (the prize of the competition) if a car was the main problem plaguing the YBNL stronghold.

Laaaasufa Julailu! Olamide did not take this calmly, nor did he take it sitting down. He went to WAR on his twitter page and it is fair to say that any guise of professional respect or admiration has been stripped away today – and on the first day of the year as well. Toh.

I understand Olamide’s point (not surprising!): he wants recognition for hard work and chart influence, but it would seem that the same names win over and over because of…shall we say, other influences.

However, Olamide seems to have obliterated any chance of peace between the two towers as he even brought DBanj and Wande into the fight. There are many F words. Be warned. Other than that, read from bottom to top a la Twitter, and enjoy!
