President Obama has remained defiant in his promise to speak on gay rights in Africa as his current trip to the continent takes him to Ethiopia and Kenya, his roots.
The president has said in no uncertain terms, “I am not a fan of discrimination and bullying of anybody on the basis of race… religion… sexual orientation or gender” and although there has been a lot of hullabaloo with Africans threatening him to “Keep his opinions and his homosexuality” to his country, Obama has confirmed that he would not fall silent on the issue.
He spoke on this and many other issues in an interview with the BBC.
I have to say that I agree with him 100%. I think the discussion is anyone’s to have and there are lots of opinions on the gay rights issue – so tay Facebook gave a whole bunch of people crayon on top the matter.
My problem is with the ‘illegality’ of it. 14 years in prison? Really? More than the years for theft or rape? Because someone did something with someone else who wanted it? That’s wrong.
Speak on it, President Obama! There was a time we thought female genital mutilation was right and proper too. Slowly, we will learn to not oppress people who do not conform to our desires for them, and allow people to be GREAT!
