“Every mother deserves the opportunity to watch her child grow.” Seems like such a simple statement. Sounds like a reasonable request too, no? And yet, for thousands of expectant and new mothers in Africa, this is not a given. And at the annual TEDxEuston Salon last weekend, Temie Giwa-Tubosun explained why felt she had to discover what her DUTY was on this Earth and how best to go about fulfilling it.
Speaking about the travails of obstetrics and gynaecology in Nigeria, the forward thinking pioneer has said “If you got pregnant, and had your baby, and you lived and so did your child, in Nigeria, it was a miracle! Pure miracle!”

It is for this reason – the desire to increase every mother and child’s chances, that LifeBank NG was formed. The process seems so simple and yet so essential; saving lives daily. Daily!
The platform makes blood available when and where it is needed in Nigeria to save lives. The accept blood donations, take inventory of all blood available in the country, mobilise and deliver blood in the right condition to the point of need.
This is the Africa that we prayed for. The change we want; the change we need. Except we are not praying on our knees; everyday Africans are making miracles happen daily with hard work and innovation.
We can fix us by ourselves. We do not need any external help. What we do need is commitment and dedication to the cause of a better, healthier Africa, and Temie Giwa-Tubosun is doing her part to take us a step closer to the Promised Land.
If this has moved you in any way, you can register with LifeBank NG and sign up to become a donor. Guess what I will be doing next time I’m in Nigeria??
