I think deeper now before I write songs –Sunny Neji

Sunny Neji, a veteran in his own right whose late 90s hit single, Mr Fantastic still rocks the airwaves, recently revealed why it seems he has been off the music scene for a while now.

According to him, “I am trying to reinvent a direction, I am thinking deeper now before I write songs. I am trying to redefine a more inspirational path before I write my songs. If you want to connect with people at that level, it has to do with more thinking.”

Speaking on his hit songs, Neji said he will consider some of his songs as very successful but there are still some of his songs that have not got enough accolades as they should.

“Oruka remains relevant; it is just like the Nigerian wedding anthem. Songs that will address societal issues, family issues relationship issues. Some of my greatest songs did not get the kind of reaction I expected. Oruka and Mr Fantastic can be considered to be some of my most successful songs. Some of my deep materials have not received so much accolade; maybe because they didn’t get the kind of promotion the other ones got. “One of my recent songs called ‘Aeroplane turner’ is a highly philosophical song that if Nigerians listen to it they will understand what I’m talking about. There is variety of music out there. When I was young, you could find a song for every situation. A true music lover should be open to any type of music.”

The Oruka crooner also notes that he knows there is a need for him to be more active on social media because that’s the new marketplace.

“I am not really an extrovert, God created us to be different to create a balance, I am not active on social media, but I know I need to work on it because that is where everything is happening now.”
