I swear when I first saw this title on the BBC, I thought it said “Pope Francis questions Donald Trump’s sanity”
While this would be a very valid concern from the pontiff, I just didn’t picture him being as blunt as we all are when we have thoughts on Mr Trump, so while somewhat disappointed that the Pope did not go gangster, I’m still pleased that he spoke only on the hatred and xenophobia that Donald Trump has been spreading throughout his campaign to become America’s next president.
Towards the tail end of his visit to Mexico, the wonderful Pope said, “A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not of building bridges, is not Christian. This is not the gospel.”
I really cannot think of a more succinct way of describing Christianity and once again, this Pope has stolen my heart.
Every time you preach the message of exclusion, of judgement, of shutting another person out, you are not practising what Jesus lived and died for.
Pope Francis refused to be dragged into a conversation on politics or who to vote for or against, but kept his comments to what was Christianly – which is the right and proper thing to do.
The crazy, toupee-ed fellow supports deporting nearly 11 million undocumented immigrants and is not averse to deporting legal immigrants either. Mr Trump has alleged that Mexico sends “rapists” and criminals to the US.
