The Ooni of Ife is either suffering from blogger pranks or someone is lying. For over forty-eight hours, the news have been filled with details of a final crash of the Ooni’s 17 month old marriage. Sources have posted details allegedly leading up to this crisis between the Ooni and the Olori Wuraola. News reports are claiming all sorts of factors for the demise of the marriage: recent trips the Olori took abroad on her, her joining a march against domestic violence in Lagos, her fertility issues, a fake pregnancy, and possibly the discovery of some chats by the Ooni.
The Ooni of Ife has kept quiet on some of the rumours and has roundly denied some of the others. Indeed, the media aide to the monarch mentioned in a conversation with a media outlet that he was unaware of such rumours until the chat with their reporters. He further stated that the palace would issue a statement on the matter as soon as possible.
“There is no truth to the news, it is unimaginable. We would issue a statement on the matter soon.”
This is really disappointing to say the least. If these are malicious rumours, it would not be out of place for some of these news platforms get serious penalties for publishing unconfirmed details about the private affairs of a monarch. And even if that does not happen, their houses still might burn to the ground for this affront. Just ask Oba Akiolu.
However, if the rumours are true, then we sincerely hope that the Ooni makes the first move to provide reliable instruction to the public and save us all the hoopla.
