The Nigerian Senate on Thursday, April 11, confirmed the appointments of three ambassadorial nominees by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Senator Monsurat Sunmonu presented the report of the committee on foreign affairs on the confirmation of nominations of Christopher C. Chejina, Bukar Kolo, M.A. Mabdul, as career ambassadors-designate.
After going through the reports of the committee, the Senate consequently confirmed them. In his reaction, Senate president, Bukola Saraki, congratulated the ambassadors designate and wished them a successful tenure.
“On behalf of my entire colleagues of the 8th Senate, let me congratulate the three new career ambassadors-designate. I wish you a successful tenure as you continue to work for our great country,” Saraki said.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the presidency have been urged by the All Progressives Youth Solidarity Network to withdraw support for incumbent Senate leader, Ahmed Lawan as their anointed choice for the Senate presidency in the 9th Assembly.
The coordinator of the group, Comrade Shuaibu Usman, while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, April 10, said all contenders for the office – Senators Ahmed Lawan (majority leader), Ali Ndume (erstwhile Senate leader) and Danjuma Goje (chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation) – have been tainted, as they played prominent roles in the current Senate leadership led by Senator Bukola Saraki.
