In a recent interview with Ebony magazine, Nicki Minaj’s ex-partner, Safaree Samuels that deal with the question what a submissive man should look like.
In the interview, he is quoted as saying:
To be a submissive man, you have to have a submissive bone in your body. The relationship isn’t going to work out for the man who has a short fuse or can’t handle being told what to do. A lot of men look for women they can mould into what will fit into their lives, but you can’t do that with a strong-minded woman. If you’re going to be with her, you have to be okay with her running the show at times.
While this is a fact of life – submission requires that sometimes you step back and let the other person take charge – I wonder how many men, particularly Naija men can do this?
@comedianebiye killed this little skit about the way Linda Ikeji’s husband would act given that she is a rich woman who just moved into a mansion:
Looking at the most powerful women we know who achieved their power on their own terms: Oprah Winfrey, Margaret Thatcher, Folashade Alakija, few of them have husbands who are in the limelight with them (eg. Beyonce).
A lot of them are either unmarried, or are married to men who are happy to take a back seat and let them do their thing. Is this the same within the home though? Safaree goes on to say:
Sometimes a strong woman doesn’t know the difference between her man and an employee, especially when mixing business and pleasure. She has to know how to turn it off when it’s time to be the girlfriend or the wife.
Respect is major in this type of relationship, so don’t just talk to your man any kind of way. Let a man be a man in terms of respecting his opinion and what he has to say. He also has insight and things to add to your vision.
Thinking about this though, nobody writes articles telling extremely rich and powerful men that they still need to respect their wives despite being the main bread winner. People just let rich men get on with running their homes as they see fit. But the world seems to be full of advice on how women should act even if they are the bread winners in their homes.
What do you think, ladies?
Can a man truly be submissive to a woman?
Could you be with a submissive man?
What would submission in a man even look like?
