WATCH: Falz takes cue from Childish Gambino in ‘This Is Nigeria’

Every now and then, when he is not rapping in a tongue-in-cheek manner about girls and the good life, Folarin ‘Falz’ Falana displays his conscious side.

That side of him shines through in his latest effort, ‘This is Nigeria’, a parody of Childish Gambino’s ‘This is America’.

Wearing the toga of a conscious artiste, Falz addresses a wide range of issues such as the menace of Fulani herdsmen, codeine epidemic among Nigerian youth, the much-panned special anti-robbery squad (SARS), internet fraud also known as ‘yahoo yahoo’, the Chibok and Dapchi shoolgirls abduction.

Rapping “This is Nigeria, look how I’m living now, look how I’m living now. Everybody be criminal/ Person wey no get work dey check if my watch is original,” the comic-actor also takes a dig at pastors and Big Brother Nigeria.

The rapper also recreates the video in which Ibrahim Idris, the inspector-general of police, struggles to read a speech.

A commentary by his father, lawyer and social activist, Femi Falana, closes out the song.

‘This is Nigeria’ was produced by Wande Thomas and the video was directed by Prodigeezy.
