I know most of us aren’t religiously following the participation of our under-17 boys at the Chile 2015 World cup, some others are merely waiting for a semi-final berth before we say “Up Naija”. Okay, here’s an update – our boys are doing brilliantly, they’ve scored the tournament’s fastest goal(s) and even one of them is on the verge history.

The Golden Eaglets striker, Victor Osimhen, is gradually inching his way into the tournament’s history books.

According to statistics, the striker’s four goals and one assist make him the highest scoring player in the group stages.

If he does go on to collect the adidas Golden Boot, he will become the third Nigerian to be named top goalscorer at a FIFA U-17 World Cup after Macauley Chrisantus in 2007 and Wilson Oruma back in 1993 if he does, bringing the Golden Eaglets level with Spain’s tally of three previous Golden Boot winners in this competition (Borja in 2009, Cesc Fabregas in 2003 and David in 1997).

They are facing the Joeys of Australia in the round of 16 clash on Thursday by 9;45am AEDT.
