Hollywood and their Old Age Pensioner action men! They won’t let Liam Neeson rest his weary bones, and look! They’ve still got Grandpa Cruise out here jumping out of planes! Hollywood has no home training o! LOL. The long anticipated preview for Tom Cruise’s The Mummy is out and promises to be one heck of a film!
We have all seen the previous franchise, which was also incredibly successful for Universal, the studios behind both films. The difference with this one is its no fun and games. No floppy haired Brendan Fraser and doe-eyed Rachel Weisz. No cute and easily dismiss-able side characters.
This version of the Egyptian tale brings on the full horror of seeing a vengeful creature come to life after being buried for thousands of years. According to Screenwriter Jon Spaihts:
“In The Mummy, I think we’re going to see the first Mummy film in the entire Universal canon with the true power to terrify… “The earliest [Boris] Karloff and Bela Lugosi Mummy movies were scary in a small way, perhaps a dated way. They were almost parlour movies. Subsequent movies have been more swashbuckling. This one is going to have all of that action and adventure, but a legitimate power to terrify. I think that’s going to be the new experience of that film.”
The cast features:
- Tom Cruise as Nick Morton
- Sofia Boutella as Princess Ahmanet / The Mummy
- Annabelle Wallis as Jenny Halsey
- Jake Johnson as Sgt. Vail
- Courtney B. Vance as Colonel Gideon Forster
- Russell Crowe as Dr. Henry Jekyll
The Mummy will hit US cinemas June 9, 2017.
