What do you know about somersaulting engagement ring or Blackberry phones encrusted with diamonds? Nothing!!! Cos you’re in London tapping your oyster upandan while your mates are living it up in Sloane Street sipping sham-pag-nay and living large! That’s Lagos to London for you!
Channel 4 did a TV documentary featuring some of the super rich in Nigeria and we watched them talk about spending and living life as part of the elite in both Nigeria and the UK.
Featured on the programme were Ocee and Ozee Mbadiwe – the Mbadiwe twins (party and events promoters), Toke Makinwa (on-air personality and vlogger), Cuppy (DJ) and Temi (fashion blogger) Otedola, and Alexander Amosu (shopper and blingage extraordinaire).
Our overriding thought was this – we know there are fat cat Nigerians. We grew up with them, we see their cars, their houses and we bump into them at Murtala Muhammad Airport. But the average Brit will probably only ever bump into the Nigerian traffic warden, street sweeper, or blue collar worker. They will never know that far from being some poor, impoverished country, we also earn it. And spend it. Lavishly, too.
If only for that reason, I thank Channel 4 for this programme. But once is enough, Channel 4, thank you.

You sure you were listening to the review, Terry?
Actually, partially. The remaining time I was absorbing the personality called Rachel. She turned out to be just the way I thought she would be: some class, come rassness and a huge serving of brilliance and intelligence.

Haaaa. … i saw a link to the documentary this morning.. I just laughed at the inaccuracies that would abound there…
Ohhhhh beautiful…. Peju……..
I was piiiiiiiiiiidddd off with those girls prancing about like twarts. Especially when the source of your family wealth is a bit if you to say the least. The twins privilege political elite background can really tell me shit….. No news there… Now to my main guy self made…. Clever guy. The only thing I do is I was him is to get the supra rich to buy Naija and invest and develop Naija goods… As for the rest of them could not give a 4ki
Awww. ..nice.
The kind of down-to-earth nature and yarn that should be seen
Thumbs up. …viva
I saw usually don’t get myself bothered about this kinds of people.
Brain is needed
Omotoyosi Ogunbanwo I know I can’t see the show for copyright reasons, but I believe it is a good way to show the Brits that not all Nigerians are below there. Thanks to Channel 4
You are right. The video said the same thing.
Not all Nigerians are cleaners and ticket wardens.
We actually have rich Nigerians and they need to see that.
I like your repeated “the suit was 80 thousand pounds y’know…” It brought out the vivid imagery of their struggle to be noticed and the deflating pangs of distress if they’re not.
By the way, you weren’t looking “rough”. You were just YOU…symbolic parallel to their emptiness and vanity. Awesome Rachel…every bit a delight.
You’re very kind! Thank you so much đ
Viva!! Yayyyy we get to see your face on YOUTUBE!
Plix… I haven’t seen the documemtary but how Toke take heter dia?
