Managing multiple talents
Being multitalented has its advantages and it is wise to maximise these benefits regularly. It is also important that you do not allow your gifts to become a curse. You may wonder how that can be. Well, it is so easy to be caught up in the notion that ‘no talent should go to waste’ and want to make use of them all at once. I am a firm believer of maximising talents but I also understand how to streamline when required.
How many things can you do at once? Very few. That is an unpleasant fact that we must all accept. Most of the times when I work with new clients, the conversation starts with “I have so many talents but do not know which one to work with”.
My answer is always ‘start with one thing’. Your passion has many components like river tributaries. They all flow separately but head in the same direction and will eventually become part of your big picture. Whichever one you start with will lead to your ultimate purpose as long as you do things right.
I used to be fearful of not spinning all my plates at the same time. My fear was – what if I drop one, what if I stop and cannot start again? It is not spinning that will keep the plates in the air; it is the person spinning them. If you believe in your talent and passion, you can pick up that stick and start spinning those plates when the time is right.
Do not allow your multiple talents to become detrimental to your goals and ambitions – that is not their purpose in your life. They are there to help you attain great heights and create solutions to problems in the world.
Do not be bogged down by trying to choose the perfect one to work with right now. Pick one that is closest to your heart, fits in with your goals and start with that. You may be thinking “I need investment”, we can all do with a huge cash injection from a lottery ticket but the chance of that happening is quite slim. Get it to the place where investment is going to be the next step and start working on finding investment when you get there.

The secret of getting started is breaking your complex, overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then beginning with the first one.
Cultivate the ‘one thing habit’, that will fix your talent overwhelm and help you get more done in your idea and in your business.
