Kimberly and her plane

This beautiful young girl, Kimberly Anyadike, is doing amazing things and breaking records!

In a time when our boys and girls are being locked up in the US and our men and women are being slaughtered publicly by the police, I feel so much glee, pride and triumph as my 15 year old nwannem nwayi (sister) takes the record for the first black female to fly cross country!

Kimberly became interested in flying at a very early age and started taking lessons at the age of 12. She is so accomplished and so calm behind the cockpit that you do not even notice that she is still a child to a large extent until she opens her mouth to speak and you hear the delighted little squeal of a teenager.

On her 13-day journey, she stopped over at Moton Field, Tuskegee where she met many of the legendary Tuskegee airmen (50m of them signed her plane), including her hero – Tuskegee Airman Lieutenant Colonel Herbert Carter.

I could go on and on about this young girl’s achievement, but I will simply say:

Igbo kwenu! Igbo kwenu!! Igbo kwenu!!!

Viva Naija!
