Emeli Sande is amazing. Her voice is deep, rich, full and haunting. It is fully developed and speaks to you. Whether it be in a fastpaced tune or in a haunting ballad, she manages to connect. I think a lot of the depth comes from the fact that she is a songwriter as well as a singer. She understands words and the effects they can have. Her much documented heartbreak must also have something to do with her ability to connect. Someone once said “When you are sad, you understand the lyrics, and when you are happy, you enjoy the music.” Ms Sandé embodies this perfectly. From Read All About It (Part III) to Clown, you will hear her. And now, she spins a new miracle by the name of Breathing Underwater
Breathing Underwater: Long Live the Angels
There is no doubt that even for an artiste who was already quite mature, the new album, Long Live the Angels is still a more confident sounding one. As with all things, one must first find one’s footing, and Emeli Sandé certainly seems to have done that. The album sounds like it is her true voice, and the noises in my ears are awesome!
Breathing Underwater is simply amazing, however; the jewel in an already glistening crown. It is gospel infused and is bound to lift even the most dreary of spirits. A true musical miracle. It would seem there are many who have been waiting on just such a prayer: it is no mean feat to rack up almost a million YouTube views in 3 days. Especially if you have been away for four years and counting.
Do listen. Emeli Sande – Breathing Underwater. This one is bound to be on repeat for many moons. Simply sublime.
