I have never seen a film in which Omoni Oboli has disappointed me, so I was expecting her film The First Lady starring the lady herself, Chinedu Ikedieze, Joseph Benjamin, Alexx Ekubo, Yvonne Jegede, Udoka Oyeka and Tony Monjaro to be a success – the calibres of the other actors gave me an inkling too.
What I didn’t expect was the effusive pouring out of praise for the film following its premiere in Nigeria.
Coming from Nigerians who we know are jaded with Nollywood, who would prefer to watch the point-and-shoot or rom-com of the Hollywood scene, such high praise from viewers all over the country cements Ms Oboli as a main player in this field who has come to stay.

Box offices have been left aghast by the sheer numbers that keep coming in, and more and more people are sitting up and paying attention to this lovely, talented lady.
Well, if you’re in the UK, you won’t have had a chance to see this film yet, but it’s a good thing that it’s hot on the heels of her very next blockbuster FIFTY, showing here at Leicester Square, London on the 17th October – next week. Eeek! Excited much!

@Omonioboli I saw The First Lady yesterday. Great movie! It wasn't just hilarious but also didactic. Well done ma'am!
