Prince Harry was always my favourite. I find Prince William a tad staid, made bald prematurely by the weight of the responsibility on his shoulders. Even when William is trying to crack a joke, I feel he is older than his years. Being second in line to the throne of England is no easy mantle, even in these liberal days. But Prince Harry? He’s my Yum Yum. He’s fun, funny, easy going, and dedicated, while still carrying the dignity of a Prince of Wales. His commitment to children in particular makes him adorable, while his shock of ginger hair doesn’t hurt either. ?
A statement released by Kensington Palace today in which he confirmed Meghan Markle to be his girlfriend while expressing his heartfelt disappointment at the way the press has treated her and her family only moves my love for him even further up. We all know that the Royal Family can be somewhat close mouthed about relationships and how they are dealing with them; so for him to stand up for her in this manner is rather amazing.
I can just imagine him kicking up a ruckus and insisting that the statement is sent regardless of what grandma thinks. He himself is no admirer of intrusive paparazzi, so I can imagine how this would have riled him even more. Add to that his inability to protect her, what with being so far away and being restrained by his position, and I fully understand his sentiment.
The Statement
The statement issued by the prince’s communications secretary said: “His girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment.
“Some of this has been very public – the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments.
“Some of it has been hidden from the public – the nightly legal battles to keep defamatory stories out of papers; her mother having to struggle past photographers in order to get to her front door; the attempts of reporters and photographers to gain illegal entry to her home and the calls to police that followed; the substantial bribes offered by papers to her ex-boyfriend; the bombardment of nearly every friend, co-worker, and loved one in her life.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are the couple to watch right now, and y’all, Prince Harry is bae. I couldn’t be happier.
