‘The Mountain’ from ‘Game of Thrones’ is officially the World’s Strongest Man

1

Remember the jaw-dropping ‘Mountain’ whom Cersei Lannister hired to fight who was to represent her imp of a brother, Tyrion in a ‘godly’ battle to determine if he was innocent of killing the King at the time, Cersie’s son, Joffery Baratheon, in Game of Thrones???

Hafthor Julius Bjornsson spends some of his time as an actor, playing Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane on HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” But he’s also been pursuing a title that’s eluded him for years: the World’s Strongest Man. On Sunday, after three third place finishes and three second place finishes at previous competitions, it eluded him no more. Bjornsson was officially crowned the World’s Strongest Man!!

According to the Washington Post, Bjornsson — who is an appropriately mountain-like 6-foot-9 and 400 pounds — finished first in three of the six events that make up the competition: the vehicle dead lift, max overhead and loading race. The Philippines Department of Tourism tweeted some photos from the two-day event, and it looks exactly how you’d expect a strong man competition to look — lots of large men carrying very big, heavy things like they weigh significantly less than they actually do.

Yes, that is a man pulling a bus. A BUS.

After all the feats of strength were completed and Bjornsson was declared the winner, he posted on Instagram and thanked his friends, family and more.

That trophy looks pretty heavy. But it wouldn’t make sense for the World Strongest Man trophy to be some light, dinky thing, would it?

“Game of Thrones” won’t return until 2019, so fans will have to wait awhile to see Bjornsson as Gregor Clegane again. But if you want to see him pull off incredible feats of strength, you only have to wait until June, which is when CBS will be showing the World’s Strongest Man competition on TV.
