ACHIKOLO by Zoro ft Phyno is community spirit at its finest [WATCH VIDEO]

I was totally going to do a review on the new song by Skiibii aka The Resurrected. The song is called ‘Ah Skiibii’ and features Olamide, my Bariga Bae. Then I realised that everything I wanted to say about the song can be summed up thus: Skiibii is back from the dead. He sang a song. Olamide is inside.

It is the kind of “Naija dance music by formula” that Mavins had previously perfected and Olamide is now falling foul of. A sprinkling of generic Afrobeats beat; yellow girls shaking their bum bum in the video; Olamide spewing some rhymes;  Skiibii taking shots in front of someone’s house/car/pool.

I mean, the video can be found here if you really feel that way about it, but I’m not gonna lie, I wasn’t here for it at all.

And then here comes the Igbo Posse to save the day!!

I actually thought I’d never heard of Zoro before, but then I realised he is the OGENE singer; another bad ass tune, this one featuring Flavour Nabania.

I have no idea what ACHIKOLO means, but I hope it means, happiness, joy, dance, laughter and small abacha and isiewu. The video, created with the help of the Pammy UDU Bunch Cultural Group is just lovely. It reminds me that we are so much more than our differences; we are bound by our similarities. And our love for a good time. It is difficult to argue with fifty thousand views in just five days.

Zoro is a proud Igbo man and he has joined the ranks of musicians who should be making all Igbo people puff their chests out with pride.

Phyno’s rapping gets better and better, smoother, faster and sweeter with every new release. The only thing more exciting than his music is his potential.

I love the song, I love the video. What do you think? Is it a yea or a nay for you?
