BREAKING NEWS: Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez are over as she files for divorce

Viva Naija can confirm that Halle ‘The Body’ Berry has called it quits with her French husband Olivier Martinez after just two years of marriage. Well, I say “just” – it probably works out as fifty years in Hollyweird, but what do I know?

The 49-year-old actress was the one who filed for divorce, and while the public statement would suggest that there is no going back on this decision, she is quoted as having said that the marriage had simply run its course and it was not an acrimonious split. The couple have a 2-year-old son by the name of Maceo, so here’s hoping that all that is left to sort out is a mature understanding of how best to look after the child as opposed to the circus that happened with her daughter Nahla after her split with Gabriel Aubry.

Martinez and Berry said in a joint statement to the media:

It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce. We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus of what is best for our son. We wish each other nothing but happiness in life and we hope that you respect our and, most importantly, our children’s privacy as we go through this difficult period.

Berry has been spotted without her ring for months, but at the time, she claimed she’d lost it in Mexico way back in January. Today, the split has been ascribed to irreconcilable differences according to TMZ who initially broke the news. We certainly wish them all the best as they go about their separate lives.

This will be Ms Berry’s third divorce when finalised. Now, I’m no Oprah and I’ve never even been married before, but I can’t help thinking perhaps if the ravishing Ms Berry could learn how to cook jollof rice…
