Every single day, there is progress in making the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon recognised as a world class marathon, organised by one of the greatest cities in Africa. Visibility and validation on a worldwide stage is simply further proof that the world is waking up to the fact that the Lagos City Marathon is a standardised race and competition. The presence of the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) at the event is sign indeed that the marathon is gaining worldwide recognition from the powers that be.
Nadeem Khan, Vice President of the IAU, has confirmed that he will be attending the Lagos City Marathon on the 11th February, 2017.
In case you wondered what they do, the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) is operating under the patronage of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). It is dedicated to developing ultradistance running internationally within the IAAF rules and regulations. As the international governing body for ultradistance running, one of the IAU’s main objectives is to promote and develop long distance running worldwide by encouraging specific activities in each of the IAAF Continental Areas.
Although the Lagos City Marathon is just in its second year, it is clear that giant strides are being made. The Centre of Excellence, Lagos State, gets better and better, Access Bank Lagos City Marathon breaking records!
