Olamide – Science Student: the theatrical excellence of saying NO to drugs [Watch video]

It’s safe to say Olamide – Science Student is the most controversial song of the year.

Since the audio was released, the airwaves have been agog with accusations and counter accusations. Some people called for him to be arrested for promoting the use of hard drugs and this got the song banned by the NBC.

The video is finally out and it will definitely change the public opinion on his stance on the use of hard drugs.

The Unlimited LA directed video featured scenes from a crack house to a well choreographed flash mob on a street. I kept seeing flashes of Tina Turner’s Mad Max/We Don’t Need Another Hero playing out in the video, and I am particularly impressed by the cinematography on this one.

It just goes to show that Olamide can deviate from formulaic videos such as Lagos Boys (drones, random chopping of life etc), and delve into artistic visuals, the likes of which we saw with Owo Blow.

There are several subtle messages across the seven-minute long video including a ‘Say no to hard drugs’ painting, but the most important message (for me, anyway) is that Olamide remains at the forefront of his craft and is still the king of the streetz. Enjoy.
