Senator Stella Oduah representing Anambra North has been given a new appointment – as the president of ECOWAS female parliamentarians.
The Economic Community Of West African States remains a force to reckon with in West Africa, which is why this appointment is more than just a token nod in our direction, it could be a massive force for empowering the womenfolk of West Africa.

Senator Stella Oduah has long been an advocate of women empowerment, and indeed, vows that to increase the number of women within the governing body.
Oduah announced on Twitter, said she was delighted to have been chosen for the position, and spelt out her agenda for the new position. She said she will channel her energy towards improving the quality of life for women, primarily. Oduah added that while in office, she would also advocate for laws that would empower women, especially those in rural areas.
Rest assured I will continue to advocate for more inclusion for women. Met a 23 year old parliamentarian yesterday https://t.co/cccHmRfTOZ

While we congratulate the president upon her latest appointment and the newest feather she has added upon the nation’s cap, we sincerely hope that her time in the position brings about real, tangible, measurable change for the women of West Africa. We have more concepts, bills, motions and write-ups than we know what to do with.
The recent spate of domestic violence, the scourge of female poverty and lack of rights is a blight that everyone with a power to make a change must face squarely and head on.
We wish you all the very best, Senator!
